藤倉大《尺八協奏曲》が第70回「尾高賞」を受賞！

Otaka prize, given to the best orchestral work of the last year, is awarded to Dai Fujikura’s Shakuhachi Concerto which was premiered by Orchestre National de Bretagne in Rennes on April 28th 2022.
This prize was founded in 1952 commemorating Hisatada Otaka(1911-1951)’s achievements as composer and conductor of the former NHK Symphony Orchestra.

Shakuhachi Concerto will be performed by NHK Symphony Orchestra on June 27th2023 at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall Takemitsu Memorial.

Dai’s works were awarded Otaka prize 4 times.

ロンドンを拠点に活躍する作曲家、藤倉大のオーケストラ作品《尺八協奏曲》が第７０回尾高賞を受賞しました。
｢尾高賞｣は、NHK交響楽団の前身・日本交響楽団専任指揮者で作曲家でもあった尾高尚忠氏（1911-1951）の功績をたたえ、すぐれた邦人作曲家によるオーケストラ作品を顕彰するために設けられた作曲賞です。

この作品は国立ブルターニュ管弦楽団による委嘱にて、昨年2022年4月2８日、フランスのレンヌ市で世界初演されました。その録画が公開されました。

また藤倉にとって2009年の”secret forest for ensemble” 2015年の”Rare Gravity for orchestra”、2019年の“Glorious Clouds”に続き、４作目の尾高賞受賞となります。

今回の受賞作品は、今年６月２７日(火)東京オペラシティ コンサートホールにて開催されるNHK交響楽団「Music Tomorrow 2023」 で演奏されます。

I had never encountered any Japanese traditional music or instruments while I was growing up in Japan. Then, out of the blue, about 6 or 7 years ago, I started to be asked quite frequently to write for Japanese traditional instruments. So these extremely old instruments are actually new instruments for me.

My solo shakuhachi piece “Korkoroko” was written for Dozan Fujiwara, probably the most known shakuhachi player today. After its premiere, I knew I wanted to develop this piece into a concerto so
I was delighted that I had the opportunity to do this, thanks to the offer of a commission from the Orchestre national de Bretagne.

As well as the uniqueness and ancient traditions of the shakuhachi, I was also inspired by undersea photographs by Nicolas Floc’h. I have always been fascinated by the undersea world, and his black and white photos - taken from the perspective of an oceanographer as well as a photographer -captured a world I didn’t know before. It is as if there is a breeze of air bubbling between the and bottom of ocean, and as if the surface of the water is the sky: like a sort of up-side down world. Or maybe it is us who are in the up-side down world.

僕は15歳まで日本で育ったけれど、日本の伝統音楽や伝統楽器に親しんだことはなかった。
僕の両親も、僕の周りの友達も「この間、尺八のコンサート行ったらさあ」なんて話す人は誰一人としていなかった。
なのに突然約6～7年前から、急に邦楽器のための作品の作曲を頻繁に依頼されるようになった。
まさに青天の霹靂！
なので、この古い伝統楽器は僕にとっては実に新しい楽器。

僕の独奏尺八のための作品《ころころ》は、藤原道山さんのために書かれたもの。
おそらく今日最も良く知られている尺八奏者だ。
この作品の初演の後、僕はこの作品を協奏曲に発展させたいと思っていた。
そんな誰にも話していなかった僕の思いを、テレパシーで伝わったのか、今回ブリュターニュ管弦楽団の委嘱のおかげで実現する機会をいただいた。
とても嬉しく思う。

作曲にあたり、尺八のユニークさと伝統だけでなく、海洋写真家Nicolas Floc’h氏の作品にも触発された。
僕は常に海底の世界に魅力されてきたのだけれど、彼の白黒写真は、海洋学者と写真家の両方の視点から撮影されたもの。
それは僕の知らなかった世界。
まるで、海底にそよ風が吹き、水面が空であるかのようだった。逆さまの世界。あるいは・・・・逆さまの世界にいるのは、僕たちの方なのかもしれない。

I am writing to congratulate you and Dai Fujikura on the successful performances last week in Seattle of his new piece, “Wavering World”. We gave three performances of the work and each time it was warmly received by our Seattle audiences. Giving the piece in conjunction with Sibelius’ Seventh Symphony, the piece which we referenced when making this commission, informed both in unexpected ways.
I understand that Dai Fujikura will receive the Otaka Prize for his Shakuhachi Concerto and wanted to send my warmest wishes for this wonderful achievement also. Congratulations!

　名フィルでは、2014～16年に初代コンポーザー・イン・レジデンスを務めていただきましたが、当初風当たりが強かったこの制度が、今なお存続しているのは、藤倉さんの作品のクオリティの高さと、評価・知名度アップのおかげです。
　在任期間とその前後で、これまでに、
ピアノとオーケストラのための協奏曲『アンペール』（委嘱新作・2009年2月日本初演）
木管楽器・打楽器による5人のソリストとオーケストラのための『Mina』（委嘱新作・2014年2月日本初演）
歌曲集『世界にあてたわたしの手紙』［バリトン＋オーケストラ版］（委嘱新オーケストレーション作・2015年7月世界初演）
フルート協奏曲［オーケストラ版］（委嘱新作・2015年12月世界初演）
オーケストラのための『Umi（海）』（2019年2月世界初演）
オーケストラのための『グローリアス・クラウズ』（委嘱新作・2019年7月演奏）…第67回尾高賞受賞作品
と、5作品を委嘱、1作品を初演し、ほかに「トカール・イ・ルチャール」、「バニツァ・グルーヴ！」、「レア・グラヴィティ」、「三味線協奏曲」も演奏しています（来季はヴィオラ協奏曲『ウェイファインダー』を予定）。
　近年、ますますスタイルが固まり、最初の一音から「あっ、フジクラ作品だ！」と気付くほどになっています。「唯一無二の個性」を備えた作品・作曲家こそ、音楽史にその名を残す可能性が高いと思いますが、作品を演奏するたびに“古典”の誕生に立ち会っているような感覚を、大きな喜びとともに感じています。
　これからのますますのご活躍を、心からお祈り申し上げます。私どもも、この先また藤倉作品を検討いたします。
